Summer League 2008 - Playoffs
Hey everyone. Great job with the Summer League! We had many close games and it came down to the last week to determine much of the final standings. The only teams that tied were Team 5 and Yellow Fever [4]; both finished 3-4. However, the tie breaker goes to Team 5 as they went 2-0 against Yellow Fever [4].
Here are the final standings:
Pool A
Team 3 (5-2)
Team 1 (4-3)
Team 2 (2-5)
Pool B
Flaming Carrots [6] (4-3)
Team 5 (3-4)
Yellow Fever [4] (3-4)
Congratulations to Team 3 and Flaming Carrots [6] for winning your pools! You have earned a bye game in Week 8. Your matchup will be played on the remaining field (it will make more sense when you read the whole email). Since you only met once in the regular season (Week 1; which was a Team 3 victory) Team 3 will get to pick color and pull or defend. Flaming Carrots [6] will get to choose the side they want afterwards. You will be playing for the #1 overall seed in the Playoffs and, most likely, an easier game in Week 9. The #1 overall seed also entitles you to first choice of field in Week 9.
The remaining games for Week 8 are as follows. These games will pin Pool A 2nd place against Pool B 3rd place and Pool B 2nd place against Pool A 3rd place:
A - Team 1 vs Yellow Fever [4]
B - Team 5 vs Team 2
Since Team 1 won the head to head matchup against Team 5 (Week 7) they are the #3 overall seed and get first choice of field. Team 5 is the #4 overall seed and will get to pick which field to use out of the two remaining fields. Both Team 1 and Team 5 will get to choose color and pull or defend in their games for Week 8. Their opponents will get to choose which side they want afterwards.
Week 9 games will be determined after Week 8 has been completed. Below are the two different scenarios that could occur.
Scenario #1
In the event 2 teams from the same pool win in Week 8, the #1 overall seed will get the lower (3rd place) of those two teams as their opponent in Week 9.
Scenario #2
If a team from each pool wins in Week 8 then Team 3 and Flaming Carrots [6] will both play a team from the opposite pool, since they would have only met once during the regular season.
If any of the above doesn't make sense, if I overlooked something or if you have any questions please reply to the captain's list and we can work it out. I'll send out a league-wide email at the end of the week once the playoff format is understood by all the captains.
